Our Social Impact
Hiring local talent and allowing the community to thrive is something we have been invested in over the last few years. Here, we share with you the journey of an employee at our factory. From being unskilled to being skilled over a period of three months.
As of today, we have trained ~ 125 Leather craftsman who now work directly with us. With each product you buy, know that you indirectly contribute to the welfare of each craftsman we work with.
Supporting Local Talent
The Postbox manufactures it’s products across various locations in Tamil Nadu. One such factory is situated in the temple town of Kanchipuram. We hire people from the local community, teach and train them over a period of three months to become a skilled leather craftsman.
To make it easier for the women and men to come to and fro their village, we arrange a bus transport facility which makes it easier and also safer for each of them to travel back and forth, everyday.
In collaboration with FDCI, we facilitate classroom sessions for all our trainees on the intricacies of leather craftsmanship and how to use different techiniques to make leather goods, including bags and wallets.
The Training Period
Post their class room sessions which happen almost everyday through the first one month, the team of trainees then move on to the floor where they are introduced to different machines which do a host of functions. From splitting of leathers, to edge colouring to the main stitching machine.
Each trainee is given a set number of patterns which they will have to complete. Usually these are dotted lines on a piece of board which they will have to trace using a machine.
No two people are the same and we are clear that each of the women and men who are trained through this extensive process spanning over three months will need time at different points of their training to understand and move forward. We take it upon ourselves to guide and help them learn through their mistakes before they graduate onto the main manufacturing floor.
Set in Motion
Once graduated onto the main floor, each of the employees is given a table, ample light and breathing space to work in a synchronised manner. As a factory, we are audited on a quarterly basis by external agencies on the working conditions we provide. This is only because we are conscious of maintaing global standards in manufacturing.
